Item Advisor

Learn how to use Item Advisor to generate AI-powered insights into an item's stock, demand, risks, and recommended actions.

Overview

Item Advisor is an AI-powered assistant that provides an on-demand analysis of an individual item. It brings key inventory insights together in one place, helping planners quickly understand an item's current situation, identify potential risks, and decide where attention may be needed.

Rather than simply presenting data, Item Advisor connects information across inventory, demand, forecasting, replenishment, and supply to explain what is happening, why it matters, and what you may want to do next.

Item Advisor provides recommendations for you to review. These are designed to support your planning decisions—not make decisions for you.

The analysis is generated on demand and saved for quick access. You can regenerate it at any time to reflect the latest item data.

Where to find Item Advisor

  1. Open Items.

  2. Select an item.

  3. Open the Item info sidebar.

  4. Under General, click Generate AI Analysis.

Item Advisor - Snapshot

Once generated an Item Advisor Snapshot will appear in the info sidebar,

summarizing the item's current stock position, sales performance, stock coverage, service level, and key actions.

  • Stock on Hand

  • Days Cover

  • Lead Time

The Full Report connects inventory, sales, forecast, replenishment, and supply information to help explain why a risk or opportunity has been identified and what you may want to review.

What's included in the Full Report

The report is organized into seven areas:

  • Item Snapshot – Summarizes the item's current stock position, sales performance, stock coverage, service level, and key actions.

  • Inventory Health Assessment – Reviews current stock, inventory trends, the replenishment pipeline, and overall stock health.

  • Demand Analysis – Examines sales trends, demand composition, future demand, and forecasting method and performance.

  • Replenishment Strategy Evaluation – Evaluates the current replenishment setup, safety stock, order cycle, lead time, and order parameters.

  • Risk Assessment & Flags – Highlights potential inventory, demand, forecast, or new-item risks that may require attention.

  • Supply Reliability Assessment – Reviews lead-time performance, delivery reliability, and the current inbound supply pipeline.

  • Recommendations – Provides practical actions for the planner to consider based on the overall analysis.

When to use the Full Report

The Item Advisor summary is ideal for a quick check of an item's current situation. Use the Full Report when you need to understand why something is happening or what action to consider.

It can be particularly useful when:

  • An item has a stockout, overstock, or unusual demand risk.

  • Sales or demand are changing unexpectedly.

  • You want to understand whether the forecast or replenishment setup is appropriate.

  • You are reviewing Safety Stock, Lead Time, or other order parameters.

  • You want to investigate supplier or delivery reliability.

  • You need more context before acting on an Item Advisor recommendation.

Practical tips for using the report

You don't need to review every section in detail each time. Start with the Item Snapshot for the overall picture and Risk Assessment & Flags to see what may need attention.

If something stands out, use the relevant detailed section to understand why. For example, check Demand Analysis for an unexpected sales change or Replenishment Strategy Evaluation if stock levels or order suggestions don't look right.

Finally, review the Recommendations for suggested next steps. Use these as a starting point for your investigation rather than automatically making the suggested changes.

Example

An AA-class item has 5,265 units in stock and 240 days of supply, well above its safety stock of 3,542 units. Service levels have been excellent, but the item is seasonal and forecast demand for the next six months is now close to zero as the peak season has ended.

Item Advisor connects the high stock position with the seasonal drop in demand and identifies a potential overstock risk. It may recommend pausing purchases, working down excess stock, and reviewing settings such as Safety Stock and Minimum Order Quantity before replenishment begins for the next peak season.

Instead of simply flagging the high stock level, Item Advisor provides the context behind it and gives the planner practical areas to investigate.

How Item Advisor works

The analysis is generated when you request it.

Once generated:

  • The analysis is saved for 24 hours, giving a faster access the next time you open the item.

  • You can regenerate the analysis at any time to reflect the latest available item data.

Benefits

Item Analyzer helps planners:

  • Quickly understand an item's current inventory position.

  • Identify potential risks before they become issues.

  • Spot demand changes and customer purchasing patterns.

  • Make more informed replenishment decisions.

  • Reduce the time spent reviewing multiple reports and metrics.
