Overview
When you create an order from Items or Reports, you can choose Create order to cover demand until next expected delivery so each item is ordered to last until its next delivery arrives.
The option sits in the Create Order(s) pop-up, together with two other choices: Use default order period (selected by default) and Create order to cover demand until date. Hover over the question mark next to the option to see a short explanation.
When to use it
Use this option when you want an order to bridge the gap to a delivery you already expect, instead of ordering for a fixed number of days.
You order between regular deliveries and only want to cover the time until the next one arrives.
You select many items at once and each item has a different next delivery date. The system works this out per item, so you do not have to pick one date for the whole selection.
You want to avoid ordering more than is needed before the next delivery lands.
If you want to choose the end date yourself, use Create order to cover demand until date instead.
How the quantity is calculated
For each item, AGR suggests an order quantity that holds enough stock until the day before the item's next expected delivery. If the item has a Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) or Order Multiple, the suggested quantity can be larger, because those rules still apply.
Option in the pop-up | The order covers | Use it when |
Use default order period | The standard order period for each item | You want the normal proposal |
Create order to cover demand until date | Demand up to a date you choose | You want to set the end date yourself |
Create order to cover demand until next expected delivery | Demand up to the day before each item's next expected delivery | The next delivery date should decide the coverage |
Note! Because MOQs and Order Multiples are respected, an item can end up with more stock than it needs until the next delivery. Review the proposal before you send it.
