Which items are not suitable for stockout bridging?

By default, Stockout bridging is disabled in AGR (set to false).

Before checking this commonly asked question, make sure you are informed about the feature and its effects. This article explains it in detail.

In short, an item will be considered an edge case for stockout bridging if:

  • It experiences many short, consecutive stockout periods. Poor sales history can lead to inaccurate forecasts, adversely affecting the bridging/smoothing process.

  • It has very long stockout periods (greater than 90 days). Unless the default settings are adjusted, these periods will not be bridged, and the item will display 0 sales.

To alter the current criteria, go to Settings > Forecast.

Since stockout bridging will immediately affect the sales history, when it comes to these edge cases, it’s important to evaluate them on a case-by-case basis, to confirm if the bridged values make sense.

To detect such items in AGR, use the Columns & Filters on the item’s module.

As a suggestion, you can apply the following filters to locate items with frequent and/or long stockout periods:

  • Stockout expected = Yes

  • Risk of Stockout = Yes

  • Stockouts Last 12 Months > 0

If you find that adjustments are still needed, consider the following options:

  • increase the Maximum Number of Days to Bridge setting (but note that it can affect seasonal products negatively)

  • adjust the sales history so that the forecast, and therefore the bridging, will better handle future stockout scenarios

  • manually disable stockout bridging for individual items, in the Item Card details.
